Nature Skills
Four skills that work with animals:
Animal Taming,
Animal Lore,
Veterinary,
Herding.
The rules of owning animals — bonding, control slots, loyalty, the stable, a pet's death, changing hands — are on the Animal Tamer page. The general skill rules are in Skills.
These four skills have a repetition limit: only 3 attempts in 5 minutes within the same 5×5 tile area count toward gains. Hammering the same animal over and over is wasted — move to another animal or work a few steps away.
Animal Taming
You bind a wild animal to you. How to use it: press the blue button next to Animal Taming in the Skills window and click the animal; your character starts calming it. Do not run or attack until it is done.

Some of the creatures in the tiers above (such as bake kitsune, hiryu, rune beetle and raptor) do not currently spawn in the lands you can reach. You can see which one is where in the full list below.
Start trying the next animal early: an animal whose threshold is a few points above you teaches the most; failed attempts carry you there too.
The control slot limit is separate: strong animals take several slots, and your total is 5 → Animal Tamer.
Full list
Every species' threshold, how many control slots it takes and which area it is found in (with the dungeon name) are on a separate page: → Tameable Animals
A tier-by-tier walkthrough and what each animal is good for are there too.
Animal Lore
Shows an animal's health, strength, resistances and loyalty; together with Veterinary it also sets how strong your animal healing is.
How to use it: the blue button in the Skills window → click the animal.
How it rises: by examining animals. Every horse and cow in town can be examined; do not get stuck on the same animal, walk along the herd. It also rises by itself while you tame.
Veterinary
Heals an animal with
bandages. It is the animal version of the Healing skill and has the same thresholds:
| What it does | Required |
|---|---|
| Bandaging an animal's wounds | Works at every level |
| Curing an animal's poison | Veterinary 60 + Animal Lore 60 |
| Resurrecting a dead animal | Veterinary 80 + Animal Lore 80 |
How it rises: by using bandages on wounded animals. Going hunting with your own pet raises Veterinary, Animal Lore and Taming together — the three advance as one.
A bonded animal becomes a ghost when it dies and waits to be resurrected; reaching 80/80 means you can resurrect your animal yourself.
Herding
With a shepherd's crook you steer an animal somewhere: you can even lead an animal you have not tamed into a stable, onto a boat or through a door.
How to use it: double-click the shepherd's crook → choose the animal → choose the spot where it should go.
How it rises: by herding animals; this skill also has the 3-attempts-in-5-minutes limit, so pushing the same sheep over and over gives nothing.
What it is for: gathering sheep for shearing, moving a herd into a field, drawing an animal you want to tame to a safe place. It is a small skill, but a must for anyone playing a farmer or shepherd.
