Death and Recovery
In Felucca, death is a real loss: your items stay on your corpse and others can take them. UORoots adds a few kinds of help so you understand what happened on your first deaths and get back on your feet.
Dying when nobody is hitting you
Some deaths have no visible attacker; the two most common causes:
- Solen acid: in the Solen Hive, solen warriors and queens spray pools of acid around them as they die. A pool lasts 10 seconds and deals 30 damage every second to anyone standing in it (your pets included); a character who dives into looting the corpse dies within seconds. Hitting a badly wounded solen up close splashes acid on you too. After a solen dies, stay away from its corpse for 10 seconds and keep clear of the green puddles of acid on the ground.
- Poison: poison keeps working even after the creature that poisoned you is dead. For example, every hit of a plague beast inflicts deadly poison. If you are poisoned when the fight ends (your health bar is green), drink a cure potion at once, cast Cure or go to a healer.
These deaths also appear in the Blood Ledger on the website, with the cause shown instead of a killer.
Death explanation window
On your first 5 deaths after your Young protection has ended, a short window opens telling you:
- what to do to be resurrected (go to a healer or the ankh at a shrine, or ask a player who knows magic or healing),
- where your corpse is (with its coordinates); blessed and personal items stay in your backpack,
- that your corpse decays after a while and others can loot it,
- that what is in your bank is never lost on death,
- how many return kits you have left, if you were given any.
If you die while Young, your items stay with you and you are moved to the nearest healer. Your pets within 15 steps of where you died (including the mount you were thrown from) are brought along with you, so you do not have to go back to the dangerous place to fetch them. Escorted NPCs and summoned creatures are not moved.
Where you are resurrected
- Healers: the healers in towns and the wandering healers in the countryside. They offer to resurrect you when you come close; they will not resurrect you if you are a criminal (gray name) or a murderer (red name) — in that case the arrow leads you straight to an ankh.
- Ankhs: walk up to the large ankh at a shrine of virtue (or in Yew or Magincia) and the resurrection window opens. An ankh resurrects everyone. There are 11 ankhs in Felucca, 8 in Ilshenar and 1 in Malas; all are marked on the world map in the UORoots EN Resurrection Points group → World Map.
- Wandering healers do not stay in one place, so they are not marked on the map.
To read the same information at any time: the HELP button on your paperdoll → What happens if I die?
Direction arrows
- While you are a ghost: the arrow leads you to the nearest healer or ankh — even if you died in the wild. A place you can reach on foot is chosen first, and healers who would not resurrect you are skipped; if a sea or lake in between cannot be crossed on foot, the arrow first points to a moongate or the ferry. Ghosts ride the ferry for free. If you are inside a dungeon the arrow does not appear: leave the dungeon first.
- After you are resurrected: the arrow leads to your corpse. Double-click the corpse to take your items.
- Right-click the arrow to turn it off.
Return kit
Within 30 days after your Young protection ends, a return kit is left in your bank on each of your first 3 deaths. The 3 kits are per person (game accounts linked to the same web account count together → Web Account).
| Kit contents | |
|---|---|
| Weapon | Based on your highest combat skill: a sword, mace, dagger, or a bow with 50 arrows. If Magery is your highest skill, 10 of each reagent instead of a weapon |
| Armor | Leather tunic and leather leggings |
| Supplies | 10 bandages, 5 loaves of bread |
- The weapon and armor are personal: they cannot be sold, traded, melted down or put into a bulk order deed (BOD).
- You can put kit items into your own backpack and bank (including the bags inside them). You cannot give them to someone else or put them into another container. If you do not want them, drop them on the ground (the item crumbles away) or throw them into a trash barrel.
- The supplies (arrows, reagents, bandages, bread) are normal items.
- You are told about this benefit when your protection ends.
