Young Players
UORoots' version of the classic UO "Young" status. New characters start with this protection, and their name is marked as Young.
Because the main continent on UORoots is Felucca, which is open to PvP, this protection — unlike in classic UO — also works in Felucca.
What does it protect you from?
| Situation | Outside dungeons | In dungeons |
|---|---|---|
| Attacks by players | You are protected | You are protected |
| Attacks by monsters | You are protected | You are not protected |
What can't you do?
- Harm other players
- Loot corpses
- Become a criminal (gray)
- Join a faction
- Secure trade with other players or hand items over to them
- Pick up an item another player dropped on the ground (or into a container on the ground) within the last 2 minutes — this includes a bag dropped from a pack animal they released; you can pick up what you dropped yourself
- Cast healing or helpful spells on players who are not Young (or on their pets) — you can cast them on yourself and other Young players. Older players can help you.
Buying from player vendors is allowed.
If you die
If you die while Young, your items stay with you and you are moved to the nearest healer.
Money support
The Citizenship Charter in your backpack shows your benefits and status. While you are Young, a purse of up to 3,000 gold is paid into your bank as you play, skill training costs half price, and during your first 10 hours you get a hunting bonus from easy creatures. Rules → Earning Money
When does it end?
It ends for every character on your account as soon as either happens:
- your account's total play time reaches 40 hours, or
- one of your characters reaches a skill total of 450.
If you want to leave early: press the HELP button on your paperdoll, click Renounce Young status in the Help window that opens, and confirm. The protection ends immediately for all your characters and cannot be undone; benefits tied to the end of protection (the return kit, the Citizen title) start just as they would at the normal end. The entry only appears while you are Young.
You can see the remaining time and skill points at the bottom left of the Traveler's Journal window. You get a warning 5 hours and 1 hour before the end, and when your skill total reaches 400 and 440.
For 30 days after the protection ends, a return kit is left in your bank on each of your first 3 deaths → Death and Recovery.
When the protection ends, the Citizen achievement and title are added to your Titles.
