Server Rules
This is a translation. If the English and Turkish texts ever differ, the Turkish original prevails.
UORoots' core principles and the rules that apply to every player. The details of the game's systems are in the Player Guide; this page says what we do and what we will not do.
1. Purpose
To bring former Ultima Online players back together in a persistent, trustworthy, community-focused world, and to make the same world learnable for new players. We keep the spirit of the classic game and add on top only modern systems that have been evaluated and approved one by one.
2. Era and our differences
- The game follows the Age of Shadows / Samurai Empire / Mondain's Legacy framework.
- Our deliberate differences — each is stated openly in the guide and never presented as official era behavior:
- Trammel and Tokuno are closed. The main continent is Felucca.
- The Samurai and Ninja professions, the Bushido, Ninjitsu and Mysticism skills and the elf race are not available at character creation (their content is on closed maps).
- New player protection (Young) also applies in Felucca.
- Everyone starts in Felucca Britain.
3. The world
- Felucca: player versus player allowed, full loot. Ilshenar and Malas: safe rules (players cannot attack each other).
- Guarded towns have their classic borders; Buccaneer's Den is unguarded. Only weak creatures spawn around the player towns.
- Camping culture is preserved: when rare creatures and items will appear again is never shown anywhere (game, website, community channel). Watching the clock is up to the players.
4. Characters
- Skill total 700 (720 with the veteran reward), stat total 225 (at most 125 for a single stat). Skill gain is 1.5 times the classic game.
- 5 characters per account.
- New characters start with Young protection: protected from players everywhere and from monsters outside dungeons. The protection ends when the account's play time reaches 40 hours or one character's skill total reaches 450; you can leave it early from the Help window opened by the HELP button on your paperdoll (Renounce Young status). While protected you cannot trade with other players, hand items over or loot corpses.
5. Death, PvP and murderers
- When you die in Felucca your items stay on your corpse and others can take them. Insurance costs 1,200 gold per item.
- Every murder reported against a murderer records a fine of 1,000 gold; 3,000 if the victim left Young protection less than 30 days ago. The fine is taken the moment the murderer dies; whatever is not covered becomes debt.
- Victims can put a bounty on a murderer's head. The murderer's own accounts, those connecting from the same connection, and the murderer's party and guild cannot receive the bounty or a share of the fine.
- Whoever kills a new player cannot collect insurance payouts for that player's insured items.
6. Client, assistants and automation
- You may only log in with the client from the UORoots installer.
- The only permitted assistant is the Razor distributed by UORoots. No other helper or automation tool may be used: Razor Enhanced, UOSteam, ClassicAssist, EasyUO, Stealth, AutoHotkey and the like; speed hacks; programs that read the screen (OCR), listen to network traffic or read memory.
- Modifying game or client files and adding plugins to the client is forbidden.
- Macroing is allowed while you are at the keyboard. Training skills, gathering resources and camping rare creatures or items while away from the keyboard is forbidden.
- You may play with at most 3 characters at the same time (the launcher opens at most 3 game windows). As long as you are at the keyboard, one character crafting while the others train skills on each other is allowed.
- One character per person in PvP: a second character joining combat between players — attacking, healing, blocking an area or a path, or carrying on by switching characters — is forbidden.
7. Houses
- One house per person (all game accounts linked to the same web account count as one person).
- Houses do not decay; each week a tax of 2% of the house's value is taken. If it goes unpaid two weeks in a row, the house is removed; the items are put into a house chest that waits 30 days, and half of the house price is refunded.
- If you demolish your house yourself, all the money you paid comes back.
8. Economy
- Our goal is for gold to be earned by effort and to hold its value. Where gold is created and where it is spent is measured continuously; balance changes are announced and written in the guide.
- You do not make money by buying materials from NPCs, crafting and selling to NPCs; the real earnings are orders and trade between players.
- No power or advantage is sold in the game. If donations are accepted, the only thing given in return is a cosmetic thank-you.
- Buying or selling items, gold, houses, accounts or labor (such as paid skill training) for real money, or for value on another server, is forbidden.
9. Accounts and security
- Game accounts are opened from your web account on the website; at most 3 game accounts can be linked to one web account. At most 2 game accounts can be opened from one IP address.
- Registration is for those 18 and over. You cannot sign up with disposable email addresses.
- The UORoots team will never ask for your password.
10. Language
The game and the website can be used in English.
11. Artificial intelligence
The game has an AI-assisted staff helper: the Ancient Watcher. It monitors in-game chat and new character, guild and vendor names. Its messages to players begin with "Ancient Watcher:".
- It acts on its own only for clear chat violations (profanity, insults, hate speech, real-life politics, advertising, disrupting chat): a warning, a mute of at most 60 minutes, or 30 minutes in jail. The action gets heavier as violations repeat.
- It cannot ban anyone or kick anyone from the game, and it cannot touch your items, house or account. Those are decisions for the staff alone. It cannot act against anyone on the staff.
- Every action is based on something you actually wrote, and is recorded. The staff sees every action and can reverse it; the number of actions it can take in an hour is limited.
- Cases it is unsure about and inappropriate names are only reported to the staff; names are changed by the staff.
- In-game combat and roleplay language ("I'll kill you", challenges) is not a reason for a penalty.
- To appeal an action, open a help request in the game (the HELP button on your paperdoll) or write to [email protected]; a human reviews the appeal.
- In help requests it can answer questions about the game itself, based on the player guide; anything it is unsure about, or that needs the staff to act, it leaves to the team.
- The staff can switch off its power to penalize at any moment; with the AI switched off the game runs without interruption.
- For moderation, only the text of the message and a meaningless alias number are sent to the AI service provider; your character name, account name, email and IP address are not sent (Privacy).
There is no other AI-assisted content (talking NPCs, AI events) yet; when it is added, it will not run the game, and its suggestions will be checked within fixed limits.
12. Conduct and names
- Insulting, threatening, racist, sexist, homophobic or hateful words and behavior are forbidden. Harassment of the staff is not tolerated.
- Sharing another person's personal information (real name, address, photo, contact details, etc.) is forbidden.
- Pretending to be a member of the staff is forbidden.
- Character, guild and vendor names may not be offensive, obscene or hateful; may not defame a real person or the staff; and may not be meaningless strings of letters. Inappropriate names are changed.
- Guilds may not be founded on racism, hate or real-life politics. Real-life politics is not discussed in in-game chat either.
- No advertising of other servers, services or products in the game.
13. Obstruction
Deliberately obstructing other players' play is forbidden: blocking roads, doors, passages, dungeon entrances or plots; blocking a passage with a pet or pack animal; blocking sight or passage with house decoration; trying to block the plots of falling houses; aggressive house designs.
Haggling and trading in the game are part of the game: the secure trade window protects you; the staff does not get involved in deals you make without it. Scams through exploits, by impersonating the staff, or with real money are, however, forbidden.
14. Community and sanctions
- The official community channel is Telegram.
- Decisions are made by the staff (GMs). Sanctions are graduated: warning → temporary ban → permanent ban.
- Serious violations that call for an immediate permanent ban: real-money trading, sharing another person's personal information, impersonating the staff, attacking or interfering with the server, spreading an exploit to others. In serious violations, all of the same person's accounts may be closed.
- You may not share your account with anyone; each account belongs to one person. The game may not be used for any illegal activity.
- If you find an exploit (bug), do not use it — report it to the team right away (a help request in the game or [email protected]); do not share how it is done with anyone. Using it without reporting it is grounds for sanctions.
- To appeal a decision, write to [email protected]; attach a screenshot or video if you have one. The appeal is reviewed by someone other than the person who made the decision.
- Lost items: are returned only if it is confirmed that the loss came from a bug in the game or a mistake by the staff. Items left on your corpse when you died, stolen, handed over outside the trade window, dropped on the ground and decayed, or sold are not returned.
- Send every request where you need to show a screenshot or video (complaints, bugs, losses) to [email protected]; the in-game help request only carries text. Write your character's name and the time of the incident.
15. Persistence
- The world is persistent: characters, houses and items are not deleted; there are no wipes.
- The world and accounts are backed up every hour, encrypted, to another provider, and restoring from backup is tested regularly.
If these rules change, the update date changes and the change is announced in the Changelog.
